This is an original British military issued parachute harness used by paratroopers. The stock number is 8035809. It was removed from service because: BER (beyond economical repair). These are in Very Good condition and there is no apparent damage, but air items have a shelf life, so this was probably too old or became obsolete.
(The parachute suspension lines would have been attached to the vertical riser straps with L bar connector links.)
